Brown spotted cockroach, belonging to the cockroach family and genus, is distributed in tropical and subtropical regions. In China, it is mainly distributed in the south, including Jiangxi, Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi, Guizhou, and Yunnan.
The adult of the brown spotted cockroach is brown in color and has a body length of 25-30 millimeters. There is a less obvious reddish brown anchor spot in the center of the anterior thoracic dorsal plate. The wings are well-developed and extend to the ventral end. This species of cockroach has a similar appearance to American cockroaches and black breasted cockroaches. The main difference between it and the American cockroach lies in the shape of its tail whiskers, with the former being short and blunt at the end, while the latter is long and has a very small end. In addition, the anal plate of male brown spot cockroaches is short, while that of American cockroaches is large and has a deep notch in the center. The larvae of the two are easy to distinguish, with white markings on the antennae of the brown spot cockroach and a semi transparent area on the middle thorax; The dorsal plate of the first instar nymph is milky white in color. Some medium-sized nymphs have milk white spots on their dorsal plates, while the color of Australian cockroaches is consistent. The difference between it and the nymphs of black breasted cockroaches is described in the latter. The egg pod is 12-16 millimeters long, significantly longer than that of American cockroaches.
After mating, female insects begin to produce egg pods within 9-27 days and carry them for no more than 1 day. A female insect can produce only one egg pod, while a female insect can produce up to 21 eggs. Its general life history data is shown in Table 1.
Brown spot cockroaches, along with American cockroaches and Australian cockroaches, also require a warm and humid environment, and prefer warm conditions more than the latter. It is usually found in places where food is stored, grocery stores, residential areas, etc. In residential areas, it mainly inhabits the kitchen and often coexists with American cockroaches, Australian cockroaches, and black breasted cockroaches. This species of cockroach has a wide diet and can feed on a variety of organic substances. It can reside outdoors in summer, such as under withered tree trunks and bark.
